Some Tampa Bay counties postponing, canceling summer camps

Not all counties have finalized their plans.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Summer camp is right around the corner. However, some counties have either canceled or postponed their camp schedules due to coronavirus. Below is a list of what counties are planning. 

The list will be updated as plans become finalized, so be sure to check back for updates. 

Polk County - Canceled

Sorry campers, we have some bad news.

Polk County Parks and Recreation announced it was canceling all summer camps hosted by the county. Those camps include:

  • Camp R.O.C.K.
  • Summer Frenzy Programs 
  • A to Z Nature Camp
  • Discovery Center Summer Recreation Outdoor Education 

The county said it was going to work on exploring ways to keep kids active while following the state's coronavirus guidelines throughout the summer.

Pasco County - Modified

(PRNR) is planning to host a modified 爱购彩票邀请码 Summer Day Camp program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Online registration begins Saturday, May 30, 爱购彩票邀请码, at 10:00 a.m.  Summer Day Camp plans are contingent upon entering Phase II of Governor DeSantis’ plan to reopen Florida, and wellness indicators while camp is in session. 

Pinellas County - Registration still open

Right now, summer camps in the county are . No word yet if camps will be canceled or postponed. 

Hillsborough County- Canceled

Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation 爱购彩票邀请码 summer camp programs have been canceled due to the coronavirus. 

"The decision was made to protect the safety of children, their families, and Parks & Recreation staff who lead the camps. The closures align with a decision this week by Hillsborough County Public Schools to cancel in-person summer classes," the county wrote in a news release. 

The county says parents who pre-registered their kids fill receive a full refund for the sessions they paid for.

City of Tampa- Lottery registration

The city of Tampa is also continuing its "Summer Kickoff Camp" and "Stay and Play" opportunities. 

The camp is for kids from five to 12-year-old and will be held on a lottery system exclusive to Tampa residents. Anyone interested can register between May 26-27 on the . 

While "Stay and Play" is for older teens age 13-18. The program runs from 6:30 p.m.- 10:30 p.m., seven days a week, starting June 1.

Sarasota County - Postponed

Camp registration is . Leaders say they are continuing to evaluate operations for the county's camps.

However, the county says they are planning on hosting camps, but instead of camps running for four weeks, they'll be trimmed down to one. Additionally, day camp will only be for ages 6-11 this year. 

Plans will be finalized and registration will be open sometime after Governor DeSantis releases plans for Phase 2 of reopening Florida, the county says. 

Manatee County - Suspended
